A Report on CLF’s Book Launch and the 2019 Academic Symposium*

On September 26, 2019, CLF co-hosted its third annual Academic Symposium which brought renowned academics from across the country to Mississauga, Ontario for discussion, critique, and scholarly engagement centred on the theme of Canada’s “Forgotten Freedoms”. The Workshop focused on aspects of Section 2 of the Charter which have not received substantial attention: freedom of conscience, peaceful assembly, association, and thought, belief, and opinion.

CLF also hosted a Book Launch celebrating the publication of papers presented at last year’s CLF Symposium in a collection titled Canadian Pluralism and the Charter: Moral Diversity in a Free and Democratic Society (LexisNexis Canada). The Hon. Justice Peter Lauwers of the Ontario Court of Appeal delivered a special message on Charter values, which was the subject of the essay he contributed to the volume. Almost all of the other contributors to the book were also present and participated in a panel, discussing their articles and issues related to pluralism in Canada.
